ImageFans of Raina Telgemeier’s work showed up at Wild Rumpus yesterday to listen to her give a brief talk, answer questions, and sign books. She encouraged aspiring writers and illustrators to write and draw now, don’t wait until you are a “professional”. Raina also demonstrated how she crafts her drawings. She asked for a setting and one of our students suggested volleyball as an activity for Raina (from Smile) and Callie (from Drama) to engage in. It was really fun to watch the drawing come to life. Thanks to one of our parents who was there, room 203 is the recipient of the illustration. We accepted it with Marcy PRIDE! Another Marcy student asked her about film rights to her books, and I believe a deal is in the works… thanks Raina Telgemeier! 2014 seems so far away (the anticipated publication date of her next graphic novel).
